Girl group TWICE carved a new record for K-pop artists who are breaking out in the U.S. Market. The nine-member act became the first female K-pop act to hold two separate arena tours in the U.S. Following their last show at the UBS Arena in New York on Feb. 27.
Their “III” world tour included multiple sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Oakland, Fort Worth, Atlanta and New York. Before this, the “Dance The Night Away” artists held three arena shows in the U.S. In 2019, singing their hits to the jampacked crowds at Chicago's Wintrust Arena, Newark's Prudential Center and The Forum in Los Angeles during their “TWICELIGHTS” tour.
Before the U.S. Leg of the “III” world tour, 2NE1 and Blackpink were the only female K-pop groups who have held arena tours in the U.S.
The group, composed of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu, were able to gather 100,000 fans (known as ONCE) in their second U.S. Tour. This makes the “III” tour the most attended U.S. Tour by a K-pop girl group - a record previously held by Blackpink after the quartet completed the U.S. Leg of “In Your Area” tour in 2019 which sold 75,000 tickets for its six shows.
The success of their second U.S. Tour also indicates that TWICE has attracted new fans since their 2019 tour where they were only able to sell 28,000 tickets, as per Koreaboo.
With this new achievement, the “Alcohol-Free” singers join BTS as the only Korean musicians to sell over 100,000 tickets in their U.S. Tours.
In TWICE’s recent shows to the U.S., the bubblegum pop group brought their chart-topping hits such as “The Feels,” “I Can’t Stop Me,” “Queen,” “Cactus” and their new songs “Push & Pull,” “Hello” and “1, 3, 2.”
Meanwhile, in a recent livestream, Momo revealed that she had hit her head in between their performances at the UBS Arena tour, according to Koreaboo. Momo reportedly got so excited about the show that she forgot to bend over while changing into a new costume and hit her head in a pillar above her. Meanwhile, TWICE’s “Formula Of Love: 0+T=3” continues to climb up on Billboard’s World Albums Chart and is currently at No. 9 on the list.
